The Bartlett Pear Tree is the classic European pear recognized for its familiar pear shape, sweet flavor, and soft, juicy texture. Its green fruit gradually turns golden yellow as it ripens, developing tender flesh that is excellent for fresh eating, canning, baking, desserts, and preserves.
Bartlett is partially self-fertile, but it normally produces a larger and more dependable crop when another compatible European pear blooms nearby. The fruit should generally be picked while mature but still firm and allowed to finish ripening after harvest.

Pollination

Moonglow may be considered as a pollination partner where the two varieties have overlapping bloom periods. Bloom times can vary according to winter temperatures, location, and seasonal weather.
North Florida Growing Note
Bartlett is not considered a dependable pear for North Florida, the Florida Panhandle, or the humid Southeast. It generally performs best in cooler, drier pear-growing regions and can experience problems with inadequate winter chilling and fire blight in Southern climates. University of Georgia Extension advises that Bartlett is not adapted to the Southeast.
Customers in DeFuniak Springs, the Florida Panhandle, South Alabama, and nearby Gulf Coast areas should consider Southern-adapted varieties such as Orient, Hood, Flordahome, Baldwin, LeConte, Pineapple, Kieffer, or Southern King for more dependable performance.
